After Surgery

You are here

Once your surgery is complete, you will rest in our recovery room under the care of specially trained Registered Nurses and an anesthesiologist.  You will find that your stay in the facility will be much shorter than a hospital stay. Once you have had your procedure and have met the criteria for discharge, we discharge you in the care of a responsible adult to rest and recuperate in your own home where you will be more comfortable.

Your surgeon and the facility staff will give you written instructions for your post-operative care. Please follow them carefully. You may be sleepy or dizzy after your surgery, even after spending time in recovery. Therefore, you MUST NOT drive or even take a taxi home alone. You MUST have a responsible adult drive you home and stay with you through the night.

You will complete your recovery at home. Patients often experience minor after effects following anesthesia, such as drowsiness, muscle aches, sore throat, occasional dizziness, headaches, or nausea. These side effects will diminish one or two days following surgery. Plan to take it easy for a few days until you feel back to normal. A Registered Nurse will call you the following day to check on your progress.
